A brief survey on user modelling in HCI
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we present a brief survey of different user modelling techniques used in human computer interaction. We have investigated about the origin of user modelling and then classified the existing models into different categories. We have discussed a few examples of user models in each category, pointed out their advantages and disadvantages and finally concluded by presenting a few open questions on user modelling. We hope this paper will help system analysts to select the proper type of model for their applications.

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition
With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

متن کاملTransferring HCI Modelling and Design Techniques to Practitioners: A Framework and Empirical Work
The human-computer interaction (HCI) community is generating a large number of analytic approaches such as models of user cognition and user-centred design representations. However, their successful uptake by practitioners depends on how easily they can be understood, and how usable and useful they are. We present a framework which identifies four different ‘gulfs’ between HCI modelling and des...
متن کاملModelling perception using image processing algorithms
User modelling is widely used in HCI but there are very few systematic HCI modelling tools for people with disabilities. We are developing user models to help with the design and evaluation of interfaces for people with a wide range of abilities. We present a perception model that can work for some kinds of visually-impaired users as well as for able-bodied people. The model takes a list of mou...
متن کاملFour approaches to user modelling - a qualitative research interview study of HCI professionals' practice
In this paper, four types of experienced HCI Professionals are interviewed about their different ways of describing users. By use of the qualitative research interview technique of thematizing the dialogue as explicit, implicit and constructive conversations about users, these differences are explored. The research shows that the traditional usability engineering approach to user description pr...
